Skin cancer is the growth of cancer cell in the skin which is not controlled by bodily mechanism. This abnormal growth of cancer cells has a propensity to spread to other organs and tissues, hence the need for immediate medical attention and medication for control of cancer in early stages is emphasised.

There are three main type of skin cancer:

1. Basal Cell Carcinoma
2. Squamous Cell Carcinoma.
3. Melanoma

Basal cell carcinoma is the most common type of Skin cancer which at first is visible as a sore. It sometimes recedes and then again re-forms and ma result in bleeding from its mass. It occurs mainly on the face and neck and is caused mainly due to exposure of skin to ultra violet rays of the sunlight. Generally, these tumours effect local area only and have a less tendency to spread to other areas of the body. This type of Skin cancer constitutes 90% of all cases of Skin cancer.

Treatment of Basal cell carcinoma:

Squamous cell carcinoma is a Skin cancer of squamous cells found in the tissue of skin surface, the lining of hollow organs of the body and on the passages of digestive and respiratory tracks. This type of Skin cancer can affect squamous cells in the above-mentioned tissues. This is the outermost skin surface known as epidermis.� The epidermis is in contact with the environment. Treatment of squamous cell carcinoma:

Squamous cell cancer can be removed by surgery. Few other treatments for this type of skin cancer are laser therapy, cryotherapy and curettage, medication and freezing.

Melanoma is although less common of Skin cancers but is most dangerous form of Skin cancer causing 73% of all skin cancer related deaths. It occurs in melanocytes or skin cells that create pigment of skin. It can develop anywhere on your body or in an existing mole that becomes cancerous. It mostly effects the face and trunk of men and lower legs of women. Melanoma can develop with signs of large brownish spot, a mole that appears and change colour and a mole that bleeds and dark lesions on palms, sole, finger tips, toes, nose or anus.

Treatment of melanoma: Treatment procedure chosen for this type of skin cancer depends upon the severity o the disease. Some of the procedures are removal of cells by surgery, chemotherapy, immunotherapy treatment like keytrude, zelboraf and imlygic is used.

Skin cancer have several risk factors. It mostly occurs above 40 years of age and to those who have family history of skin cancer. Those who have prolonged exposure of UV rays of sunlight and those who had a organ transplant.

Preventive measures for Skin cancer:

Preventive measures for skin cancer is wearing sun screen, less exposure to sun, avoiding tanning beds and sun lamps, avoiding sun exposure when sun is at its strongest that is between 10 AM. To 4 PM. Wearing sun glasses that offers UVB and UVA protection, wearing hats and covering body with fabrics to give minimum exposure to sun.
