Why is laser the treatment of choice for hair removal?

Lasers reduce hairs for good, giving you a long-lasting, even permanent result. In only a few treatments (most dermatologists recommend six to eight to get clearance) we can clear your skin of the unwanted hair that has bothered you for so long. Traditional hair removal methods, such as waxing, shaving, depilatory creams, plucking/tweezing, sugaring, and stringing provide only temporary results — some for fewer than 24 hours. To make it worse, these methods can often stimulate hair growth.

What areas of the body can be treated with laser hair removal?

It can safely treat any body part except for the small area inside the bony ridge of the eye socket.

Are some people better candidates for laser hair removal than others?

Laser hair removal works best on individuals with light skin and coarse, dark hair. We, at twachaa, have had superb results with individuals with all ranges of skin color and hairs except gray hairs for which electrolysis may be done.

How many laser hair removal treatments will i need?

It will take approximately six to eight treatments to achieve clearance of an area. We have some clients who are happy after four treatments, and a tiny minority who have needed more than eight.

Why does it take a number of laser hair removal treatments to clear an area of excess, unwanted hair?

Hair grows in repeating cycles, and only in the actively growing phase does the hair contain enough pigment to absorb sufficient energy to disable the hair follicle. When hair is in the dormant phase, it has little or no pigment, and it cannot absorb the laser light. When you come for your treatment, we disable all of the hair follicles with actively growing hair in the treatment area. A few weeks later, some of your dormant hairs will have moved into the actively growing stage, and you will come in for a treatment to disable those. As this cycle gets repeated, you experience increasing reduction of hair.

How long does a laser hair removal treatment take?

A number of factors determine the length of time for a treatment. At Twachaa, we plan for adequate time to go as slowly or as fast as is comfortable and appropriate for each client. The size and “topography” of the area treated factors into the time required, as does the amount of preparation. As a general rule, legs and backs take an hour to an hour and a half, while an upper lip or the tops of ears may require eight to 10 minutes. The front of the neck or underarms can take as little as 20 minutes.

Is laser hair removal uncomfortable, or even painful?

You may experience a small but manageable sensation that we describe as a “pinch” or a “zap” when we pulse the laser. Most of our former waxing, stringing and electrolysis clients report that the discomfort is far less than those methods of hair removal.

Why is laser hair removal so much more expensive than the other methods of hair removal?

That is a myth: laser is NOT more expensive, especially when you factor in the value of your time. Certainly there is an up-front expenditure for a series of laser treatments – but you quickly get a return on your investment, all the while achieving your goal of hair removal!

Will i have hair in between sessions?

After Laser hair reduction session, the treated hair will shed in few weeks leaving the area smooth and clean. Depending on the area, the skin will remain clean and smooth for around 4 to 8 weeks in total, starting with the treatment date; and the time for your next session will be when you see little fine hairs growing again. By repeating the sessions on time the area will remain hair free throughout the entire multiple session procedure and you will not need to maintain it by shaving, tweezing, waxing etc again.

Can i go for waxing or bleaching in between treatment sessions?

During the treatment phase we preferably expect our clients to take sessions regularly and avoid any other temporary method in between the sessions. However, if for some specific occasion, you need to go for a temporary method, you can either go for shaving or threading. Avoid bleaching the hair as it would make the laser ineffective as laser relies on melanin for its efficacy. Waxing should be avoided as it will remove the hair root which is the target for LASER.

Will i never get hair again?

The laser hair reduction reduces the hair growth in the treated area significantly but the person has to understand that IT IS HAIR REDUCTION AND NOT HAIR REMOVAL . All of us have got very fine hair known as the vellus hair throughout the body except the palms, the soles and the lips. The treated area may still require maintenance sessions once in a while ranging from 4-6 months.

What are the possible side effects?

Some people may experience the following potential temporary side effects:

  • Itching
  • Redness for up to 3 days
  • Swelling
  • Tingling or feeling of numbness

Some rare side effects may include:

  • Crusting/scab formation
  • Bruising
  • Purpura
  • Temporary pigment change (hypopigmentation or hyperpigmentation)

What are the precautions?

After the treatments we advise you to treat your skin with care for the next 24 hours. Taking showers with boiling hot water, sweating excessively, rough exfoliating products that contain a lot of chemical ingredients should be avoided since they can cause itchy, sensitive skin. After this period of time you can return to your daily habits with no danger whatsoever.
